Unique Architecture

The Richards House showcases over 80 stained glass windows along with eight varieties of varnished woodwork, some sourced from South America. This historic property, originally constructed in the 1880s, features eight fireplaces and 15 different patterns of embossed wall coverings. Each room and common area is adorned with original chandeliers and hand-painted tiles, creating a visual feast throughout the inn.

The Richards House is recognized with an America's Favorite Inn Award, distinguishing it as one of only 25 Inns in the U.S. and Canada for exceptional hospitality and comfort. It has been honored by America's Wonderful Little Hotels & Inns as a consistent reader favorite, being one of two inns in the Midwest to receive such recognition. Additionally, the hotel earned a Preservation Award from the Dubuque Historic Preservation Commission for exterior restoration efforts.
